Chantou Kwamboka spent the entire of her formative years in Bungoma. She was crowned onstage at the Two Rivers Mall on Saturday, December 10.
The beauty has replaced Sharon Obara, who was and remains the Miss World Kenya 2021/ 2022.
TUKO.co.ke had an exclusive chat with the new Miss World Kenya and this is what she said about her modeling career, the crowning night, and her personal life.
Chantou's impeccable modeling journey
Chantou revealed she developed a passion and an interest in modeling at a young age.
Her first-ever official platform was in high school when she joined Kadika Girls High School in Migori.
Chantou contested for Miss Kadika Girls and she surprisingly became Miss Kadika Form 1.
“My journey into modeling started a lot of years back since when I was a kid. I always admired being a model since when I was a kid. The first official platform was when I joined high school. I contested for Miss Kadika Girls Form One during our cultural day. Because of my creativity and coming in with a new face, I became Miss Kadika Form One,” Chantou said.
Chantou subsequently contested for all the other years but she didn't get the Ultimate Miss Kadika Girls.
Interestingly, when she joined Maseno University, the gorgeous model contested for the Miss varsity in her first year at the equatorial university and emerged as the first-runners up.
1st attempt at Miss World Kenya
Becoming the Miss World Kenya was Chantou's biggest dream. She nearly deferred her studies to contest the national beauty pageant but was discouraged by her parents.
In 2021, Chantou applied for the Miss World Kenya beauty pageant, made it to the runway, and become the first-runners up in an event that saw Sharon Obara being crowned Miss World Kenya 2021.
Chantou pocketed KSh 150,000 cash award for being the second best.
Chantou's reaction when she won
The charming model said she asked God to bless the work of her hands after putting in all that was required to win the highly-contested title.
Chantou had to deal with emotions on stage before she was called the last finalist in the very last phase.
According to her, she knew it was gone.
“There were a lot of emotions. It all started when they were calling the top eight. During the boot camp, were informed that from all the 17 contestants there would be the top eight before we move on to the Questions and Answers segment.
My heart sank because I wasn't called among the eight contestants. I got disappointed and eventually made peace with myself. This was within a span of 10 seconds but the judge later announced me as the ninth person,” she continued.
Giving back to society
The Miss World Kenya 2022 is currently engaged in different charity projects with an aim to impact people's lives positively.
“I started my own project back in 2021, It's called Operation Eden; it has two sectors, one for creating awareness on mental health and the second sector is for environment conservation. We have been down inground projects. We go around collecting plastic bottles and use them to plant greens,” Chantou revealed.

Beauty with brain
The biomedical scientist consciously matches beauty with brains. She is using every platform to give back to society and champion a course.
Chantou not dating
The 24-year-old revealed she is currently not dating and that is not on her next year's plans.
“I'm not dating. Right now I have a lot of DMs. First of all, for congratulatory purposes. I don't want to give time to dating because my life changed overnight and I am still adjusting to the responsibilities. Also, I'm a student of Benjamin Zulu and he teaches us that we should start dating at 25. So that is what I have been waiting for.
Asked about the total number of DMs she got after bagging the coveted total, she said her WhatsApp alone has almost 800 unanswered text messages.
“It is impossible to reply to them all at once but I will respond to all of them bit by bit,” the beauty said.
