The cruel death of Edwin Chiloba
LGBTQ activist Chris Makena Njerry led the world in the mourning of Chilob and in a tearful letter she said:
Edwin, the news of your cruel death sent chills across my spine. You didn't deserve that pain, you didn't deserve to die. It's a hate crime, it's homophobia written on it, and I'm sick that that's how we start this year. Another tragic loss for the queer community in Kenya, the country we should name home. I mourn you so much, my friend, I will forever remember the moments we shared and the conversations we had. You had so much love to share with the world, Edwin. I feel pain, I'm dumb. I pay for your closest friends and family who have experienced your love even closer. May they find peace in this moment.”
Makena also called on politicians and organizations that support the queer community to support them and help the killings a year after Sheila Lumumba was killed for being a queer.
“To the politicians who stand with us, please go with us Baldy, to the allies who support us, please talk about it loudly, to companies, organizations and government agencies that are feeling our pain, please stand with us. We need to put an end to all this strange suffering. Repealing 162 is not a law, it's a weapon to kill innocent queer people,” she continued.
Media personality Anita Nderu The model also mourned in a touching letter, and she said:
“I'm heartbroken and devastated. Seeing comments under posts highlighting his death is so alarming. We are following a very disturbing trajectory as a society.”
Award-winning actress Kate The actress also mourned Chiloba, demanding to serve justice.
“I'm so sorry . My heart is crying for you. May your killers never know peace . Rest in peace @its_edwinchiloba.”
Macken's ex-girlfriend Michelle Ntaliami also wrote a touching message that said:
“Beyond the heartbroken. My heart bleeds for you, Chiloba.”
