- Experienced tattoo artists vouched for hidden tattoos, saying that they complement the existing one and make it better than before,
Tattoos have existed since time immemorial, with the deep art of the skin being perceived for a wide variety of cultural reasons.
Tattoo screens
Some tattoos were worn as symbols of status, religion, declarations of love and even as forms of punishment.
Leading Kenyan tattoo artists have discovered that modern society readily perceives art as a form of expression.
Skillfully hiding scars and improving tattoos, it was easier for those who went under the needle to find work.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Tattoo By Mango, a super-tattoo artist from Nairobi, said those seeking his services feel more positive about their bodies.
He noted his self-taught skills; He immensely helped clients seeking to hide unwanted scars.
“I process all kinds of scars from self-inflicted, self-inflicted surgery, cesarean section and accidents. Seeing their new look, they feel more confident. It increases their self-esteem,” he said.
He added that society's progressive and negative attitude towards art is a thing of the past.
Mango noted that with the demand for tattoos, the need for skilled artists has increased and now it trains interested artists who are guaranteed employment after completing the course.
Strict tattoo policy at work
Ken Mwendwa, a promising tattoo artist from Pipeline, noted that employees who are concerned about hiding their tattoos because of strict policies opt for undercover tattoos.
He said:
“Most employers have a very strict policy regarding tattoos seen, so deftly hiding them without permanent removal is something I advise those who wear tattoos.”
The skilled artist noted that the best way to cope with the pain of regretting a previous tattoo is to seek the services of a professional tattoo artist.
Mwendwa added that some people get tattoos as a form of self-healing after a traumatic experience.
“People want to have control over the pain caused to their bodies. Some of the designs they choose include symbolism for change or memory that can weigh in on traumatic experiences from the past.”
Tattoos as a symbol of hope, strength
Eldoret-based artist Jimmy Tatuyus noted that tattoos symbolize hope and are a constant reminder of someone's inner strength.
“Staining your body can mark a significant event. It can be a celebration of the end of a relationship or a new beginning. A well-made tattoo is and will be a constant reminder of the past, but a strong forging ahead.”
Jimmy added that a study conducted in the United States found that respondents who had tattoos had significantly higher self-esteem than those with fewer or no tattoos.
“Research has shown that anyone who gets a tattoo has control over their mind and body, which is more self-sufficient.”
